Breaking through Blockages

My brother Geremy has recently been over in Perth staying with my folks and my family at our beach house in Gracetown.

And of course while he’s been down here we have been making the most of the remnants of daylight saving and getting some late afternoon surfs.

So in between waves and walks along the dirt tracks that take us to each of the breaks we grew up surfing as kids, we’ve had our normal in depth discussions that cover all sorts of topics from women to politics and everything in between (not necessarily in that order either).

One of the topics that came up the other day was a story of Gezza’s mate who has been working for the same company for 15 years and is now frustrated because he just can’t seem to advance any further.

He’s applied for at least 3 promotions over the last 3 years and keeps getting overlooked – I guess you could say he has hit a ceiling in his career that he can’t seem to get through.

This guy likes the company, likes the people that he works for and with – he just can’t seem to get to the next level. This guy is definitely not alone, in fact I can think of at least a couple of times in my business career where its happened to me as well. It’s also something we encounter at Blue Rocket everyday.

In fact it’s often the main reason that people decide to work with us.

So what’s the difference between our clients and my brothers mate ?

Very little really

Other than our clients have become aware of a very simple principal – that you cannot ascend higher than your current capacity to do so.

You, me almost everyone will reach a plateau in everything we do at some point UNLESS we take deliberate steps to increase our skills in that area where we wish to get better.
