Another Retail Horror Story
I best warn you! I am inclined to rant about this type of thing so if I do get a bit “agitato” I just want to give you the heads up.
Over the last 4 weeks I have been looking to buy a new flat screen television.
In this time I have walked into JB HIFI about 4 times and into DICK SMITH about 4 times as well.
Now at every store visit, I was literally $2,000 waiting for a home but here’s what happened.
Because I don’t know about TV’s and have little time to really sort through the massive changes taking place in home entertainment, I had (up until yesterday) not had the conversation I needed to have with someone to make a purchase.
Because NO ONE and I mean NO ONE has actually asked me what I want to do. Sure I have been approached, greeted and even spoken to certain sales staff in store but that’s where it ended.
(Now don’t get me wrong here in spite of what I do everyday I am an easy guy to sell to…really)
It just freaks me out that there must be literally thousands of John Blakes waking ’round everyday who are not buying because they aren’t being asked what they actually want.
And if you think I am over-reacting here, check this out…
See what I mean?
The guy that I will buy this TV from is not that much of a slick a salesman but he:
– knows his product
– was courteous enough to ask me what I wanted to do (key question) and…
– listened enough to make a CUSTOMISED recommendation relevant to me and my unique situation.
Sounds simple right?
So what can you do about it?
Well…and don’t worry I am not selling anything here today but here’s how I have been helping my retail clients with this problem…
I have just completed an invitation only, 1 Day Retail Sales Master Class held in Perth last month.
I have run many of these throughout the years and clients get massive value out of them them with repeat clients having now sent 4 and 5 groups of different staff to me to train over the years.
The reason it’s invitation only is I reserve spots for and make sure I look after the clients that regularly send staff to me to train plus I only allow 30 people in the room.
I have no dates booked for the next one, (told you I wasn’t selling anything).
but if you are interested in going on a pre-notification list for the next one (probably August/ September) simply click here (you don’t even need to complete the contact form) and I will make sure you get the heads up once the 30 spots are released with the dates for the next one I run.
