“Holding Yourself Accountable To A Higher Standard”

One of my favorite quotes (although I didn’t come up with it) is “Always do your best because you never know who might be watching”. And today I was reminded of this in Steve Jobs’s passing.

Now if you’ve been following me for a while you’ll know that I rarely jump on the media bandwagon with current affairs. But as a former graphic designer who bought his first mac in 1992 and having had a wife who passed away from Cancer earlier this year, I think today warrants some acknowledgement.

Here’s my point…

Essentially, success (as well as failure) follows a consistent pattern of behavior in all areas. I have met check out chicks, service station operators and people in all sorts of typically menial roles that I just know will end up doing something significant in their life. (probably not as significant as Jobs but you can tell they’ll outgrow their current roles because it comes through in how they behave) I’ve even employed some of them.

Why? Simply because they hold themselves accountable to a higher standard of performance. And it comes through loud and clear in the way they interact with everyone they meet and the way they do everything. Steve Jobs was clearly one of these rare people and his achievements and his life certainly deserve our respect at this time.
