Hey There,

I was re-visiting a classic self development program recently as my daughter sat in the back of my car on a 5 hour trip back from a Camping/Surfing Trip at Denmark over Easter – with a Baby Einstein DVD blaring away in the back seat, I was revisiting Maxwell Maltzes, “The New Psycho Cybernetics” audio program I have on my IPOD.

In fact, I have had 3 people close to me mention this program in the last 48 hours independently of me also revisiting it, so clearly I was meant to share it with you as well.

The big take out of the whole program is this – great self communication is not as much what you “say” or affirm to your self, it is what you picture or visualise yourself doing.

It’s both what successful people do automatically and it’s what other people can train themselves to do in just about any endeavour to get better in their mind before they do so in real life.

Maltz was a plastic surgeon of all things – and became fascinated with the image that people have of themselves and how it was linked to so much of what either made them happy or sad or successful or not.

I have studied NLP and stacks of other psychology – in fact my wife Shannon used to say that I knew more about psychology than her (and she had a psych degree.)

Anyway..

Of all the things I have studied this has always worked the best for me and for the business and sales people I have coached – hands down.

The two core processes are this.

Mental movies – where you picture yourself doing the thing (selling, golf surfing whatever) perfectly in the finest detail you can manage on the “movie screen of your mind (so from a third person perspective).

Mental rehearsal – where you see yourself doing the thing through your own eyes from a first person perspective.

This is widely used in Sport Psychology and I have personally used it myself and with the sales and business people I have coached with mind-blowing results.
